UPDATE: the giveaway has ended! After verifying entries, SALLY is the winner of the Reader’s Bundle (pictured above) and NORA is the winner of a copy of Elinor (or whichever of my titles she prefers). A HUGE thank you to all who entered! ❤

ORIGINAL POST: It’s the first of December and you know what that means …
24 days until Christmas!!!
It’s also release day for my eighth published story, which happens to be the first of my “long” trade-length novels in print … Elinor, aka Book #1 of Daughters of the Lost Colony! To celebrate, I’m offering a giveaway. And let me tell you, I’ve been preparing for this thing for a long time!
Eight years ago we moved from the (usually) warm and temperate South to the (usually) frozen and snowy north, affectionately referred to by my second-eldest as Jotenheim, land of the frost giants in Norse mythology. But I’ve done a heap of research the last couple of years at coastal and island locations, so I came up with the theme of “Wintertime Wish-I-Were-At-The-Beach” for this Reader’s Bundle. This giveaway package includes a signed copy of Elinor (or another book of your choice), a “Calming Waves” scented candle, milk-chocolate covered sea-salt caramels, assorted hot teas, one Tortuga Caribbean rum cake (these were a popular item in St. Croix, where I visited this summer), three sheets of assorted bookplates, a tube of Burt’s Bees Vanilla lip balm (because who doesn’t need the extra moisture in the dead of winter–or at the beach), and a pair of the comfyest elbow-length mitts to keep your hands and arms warm while holding your book (or e-reader) in chilly locations. The bundle may or may not include a small shell or two from my various research-trip beachcombing efforts. (Sorry, though, I will be keeping that fabulous chunk of driftwood from the Hatteras Island soundside beach ….)
This giveway starts Thursday December 2 and runs through Thursday December 9. Notice that the most points are given to newletter subscribers (both new and existing) but points are also available for commenting either here or at the Colonial Quills new release Tea Party to be held December 8! (A few more prizes will be available in conjunction with that, as well.)
You can enter the giveaway here:

And lastly, December 1 means … I have three more months till my deadline on Book 2!!! Yikes. Prayers appreciated … !
Hannah Corner says
I cannot wait to read your book! The topic is so intriguing to me. Thank you for the giveaway opportunity as well!
Shannon McNear says
Thank YOU for taking the time to comment and enter! ❤
Hannah Corner says
In answer to the giveaway question, my favorite time period was WWII for a long time. But lately it’s been The American Revolution.
Shannon McNear says
Oooohhh, I love RevWar. We lived in Charleston SC for a long time, and most people think of that as all Civil War, but it actually has a very rich RevWar-era history as well. I miss being close enough for day trips for research!
Nora St Laurent says
I like many different time periods. I like learning about events in history through fiction. I also enjoy reading the regency time period too. Eleanor looks very intriguing! Thanks for having this giveaway opportunity. Happy Almost Christmas!
Shannon McNear says
Thank you, Nora! Happy Almost Christmas to you as well! ❤
Shelley Beachy says
While I enjoy reading any historical fiction, my favorite historic periods for books to be set in are WWII and the Civil War era.
Shannon McNear says
Those are very popular, for sure! Thanks so much for stopping by! 🙂
Sheri says
What a fabulous idea. Enjoying your pioneer book with my girls. I am mid Atlantic and it’s damp and cold. In my heart I am a southern coastal girl but, I do get a lot of reading done during these months.
Shannon McNear says
Yay!! That was one of my favorite stories to write. 🙂 I hope everyone enjoys it. And I think damp cold is THE worst!
Elizabeth Litton says
Congratulations on your newest book release! (And good luck on your deadline!)
I enjoy visiting Antietam Battlefield, but I’d say my favorite time period is either Regency Era or WWII Era.
Shannon McNear says
Oooh, I love Regency as well … my mom had everything by Georgette Heyer so that was a staple in my teen years!
And I haven’t been to that one–but battlefield can be both cool and saddening. ❤
Teri DiVincenzo says
I’m diving into this today! Can’t wait!
Shannon McNear says
Oh cool!! I hope you enjoy it!!!
Mimi says
I love visiting Mount Vernon. It’s a beautiful estate.
This is such a great giveaway!
Shannon McNear says
You know, we lived in Virginia for like 3 years and NEVER WENT. Nor to Monticello! What was wrong with us?? And thanks for taking the time to enter!
Leann Richardson says
I love books set in the American south, 1800s and specifically Civil War period. I also love holocaust stories… they keep me humbled at the hardships and evil that exists in our world.
Shannon McNear says
Oooohhh, me too … The Hiding Place is my favorite, and I even named a daughter Corrie because I admire Corrie Ten Boom so much. ❤
Leann Richardson says
She and her sister were so brave and their faith was so strong! I love their story!!!
Shannon McNear says
They were amazing!! I loved Betsy’s little zingers. 😁
Shannon Kraus says
My favorite time period is the Middle Ages and WWII. I am currently in school as a history major so I actually have many time periods that are favorites of mine but the Middle ages and world war II are probably my top two!
Shannon McNear says
Oh how fun!! I’ve often thought I maybe should have studied history in college–or anthropology, because how people live just fascinates me. I enjoy the Middle Ages as well! 😊
Tracey says
It’s hard to pick a time. Because so much is fascinating in each era. I too am a huge fan of the hiding place. I don’t know how many times I’ve read it or read it to my family through the years. Some of my favorite books include the outlander series as long as I’m skimming through the more graphic parts, and war and remembrance during World War II
Shannon McNear says
The Hiding Place is THE best, I agree! And really, you like the Outlander series? LOL that’s both cool and surprising! I read the first book and even though I skimmed a lot, couldn’t handle the prospect of all the separation the main couple were sure to wind up dealing with … that’s just a really unfavorite thing for me. (And I wind up using it in my own stories … go figure!)
Connie Hendryx says
I loved Laura Frantz’s book Tidewater Bride. Your book looks good too!!! –Connie
Shannon McNear says
I also enjoyed that one! And thanks!! I appreciate you stopping to comment and enter!
Patti Menges says
So very excited for you and I’m really excited to read this book. Since I read your first book in the 12 Days of Pioneer Christmas I have been a fan. Your story was the best one of them, hands down. It made me want to read more of your stuff.
Shannon McNear says
Thank you SO much, Patti! ❤ I hope you enjoy this one as well!!
Emma Heyer says

Shannon McNear says
Thank you so much, Lisa! And I hope so too. ❤ Thank you for stopping by to comment!
Betti says

Emma Heyer says
Totally ok I was still trying to figure out if my comment actually went through or not 😅😁
Chanel Nelson says
Ooh, this is so fun! So glad you shared about the giveaway on Instagram.
I have always been drawn to the Civil War period – I read a number of books from this time period as a kid and a teen. Also intrigued by World War II, though.
Shannon McNear says
Chanel!! So good to see you over here. 😊 Those two are pretty popular–and lots of great fiction to choose from, in both!
Roxanne C. says
My favorite time period is the 19th century, but I enjoy reading historical fiction set in many eras.
Shannon McNear says
I don’t think I could pick an actual favorite era, myself! To me it’s all in how it’s written, you know? Almost anything can be made interesting if the writing is good. 😏 19th century is definitely popular, though, and more accessible research-wise than many other time periods. Thanks so much for stopping by!
Shelia Hall says
I love the Civil War South because I’m a southern belle at heart
Shannon McNear says
Aha! I think I can relate to that … I have several ancestors who hailed from Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, and the Carolinas!
Stacey Ulferts says
What a fabulous giveaway! Elinor is at the top of my WTR list. One of my favorite historic sites is Fort Ridgely lin Minnesota.
Shannon McNear says
Thanks so much, Stacey! Oh, I’ll have to go look that one up. Since we moved to ND I’ve been on the lookout for historical sites to check out!
Angie says
My favorite time eras would be civil war era and the Revolutionary war era. I read others though, but these are my favorite. You are a new to me Author and I would enjoy to get to try one of your books. Elinor sounds very interesting!! Thank you for a chance to win ☺️
Shannon McNear says
Thank YOU for stopping by to enter! I love RevWar … soaked up so much of both while living in Charleston! And I hope you do get to try out one of my stories–and that you enjoy it!
Kari Shivvers says
Can’t wait to check out the book. My favorite historical sites are the ones right here in Charleston, but I think Charlestown Landing it’s my favorite. With the grands we’ve had lots of new opportunities to go, and it reminds me of all the adventures our families had together doing “Tourist in Your Town”. Sweet times.
Shannon McNear says
Oh Kari, I miss those days! (And YOU!!) And all those sites there in Charleston. It’s sweet to have a new crop of kidlets to share it all with! ❤❤❤
Tina H says
I’m a fan of most historical time periods in early America. I like the adventures, wagon trains, mail order brides, and marriages of convenience. I don’t care for war-time stories, though.
Shannon McNear says
I can understand that, Tina! Wartime is hard. Thank you for taking the time to comment and enter!! ❤
Caryl Kane says
I enjoy reading WWII and Regency novels.
Shannon McNear says
I enjoy those, too! Thanks so much for stopping by!! ❤
Lori Byrd says
Thank you for the awesome giveaway.

Andrea C. says
Squeee!! So excited for this book!
Shannon McNear says
Thank you!! You’re so sweet! 🥰❤😘
Marilyn Brown says
I have no special war time era, but I love to read. I have read a couple of your books and enjoyed them. I am 85, ut was told as a youngster that my dad was named after a General in the Spanish/American War. His name is Schley.
Shannon McNear says
Thank you so much, Marilyn! I’m honored that you’ve enjoyed my stories. 🙂 And that’s so cool–I knew a family back in SC whose last name was Schley–I wonder if there was any relation to that general?
Natalya Lakhno says
I enjoy late 1800s
Shannon McNear says
It’s a very popular era! Thank you so much for entering. 🙂
Debbie Smith says
I’m finding that I love historical fiction and can’t wait to read your book. A book that I just listened to was The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. I have trouble saying any book is a favorite, but that one is still fresh on my mind and I REALLY liked it.
Shannon McNear says
Cool, I might have to check that one out! And thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and comment!
