Release day for Elinor–and a giveaway!

December 1, 2021 by Shannon McNear 76 Comments

My Wintertime “Wish I Were At The Beach” Reader’s Bundle!

UPDATE: the giveaway has ended! After verifying entries, SALLY is the winner of the Reader’s Bundle (pictured above) and NORA is the winner of a copy of Elinor (or whichever of my titles she prefers). A HUGE thank you to all who entered! ❤

~*~*~*~

ORIGINAL POST: It’s the first of December and you know what that means …

24 days until Christmas!!!

It’s also release day for my eighth published story, which happens to be the first of my “long” trade-length novels in print … Elinor, aka Book #1 of Daughters of the Lost Colony! To celebrate, I’m offering a giveaway. And let me tell you, I’ve been preparing for this thing for a long time!

Eight years ago we moved from the (usually) warm and temperate South to the (usually) frozen and snowy north, affectionately referred to by my second-eldest as Jotenheim, land of the frost giants in Norse mythology. But I’ve done a heap of research the last couple of years at coastal and island locations, so I came up with the theme of “Wintertime Wish-I-Were-At-The-Beach” for this Reader’s Bundle. This giveaway package includes a signed copy of Elinor (or another book of your choice), a “Calming Waves” scented candle, milk-chocolate covered sea-salt caramels, assorted hot teas, one Tortuga Caribbean rum cake (these were a popular item in St. Croix, where I visited this summer), three sheets of assorted bookplates, a tube of Burt’s Bees Vanilla lip balm (because who doesn’t need the extra moisture in the dead of winter–or at the beach), and a pair of the comfyest elbow-length mitts to keep your hands and arms warm while holding your book (or e-reader) in chilly locations. The bundle may or may not include a small shell or two from my various research-trip beachcombing efforts. (Sorry, though, I will be keeping that fabulous chunk of driftwood from the Hatteras Island soundside beach ….)

This giveway starts Thursday December 2 and runs through Thursday December 9. Notice that the most points are given to newletter subscribers (both new and existing) but points are also available for commenting either here or at the Colonial Quills new release Tea Party to be held December 8! (A few more prizes will be available in conjunction with that, as well.)

You can enter the giveaway here:

https://www.rafflecopter.com/rafl/display/272670403/?

And lastly, December 1 means … I have three more months till my deadline on Book 2!!! Yikes. Prayers appreciated … !

Oooohhh, I love RevWar. We lived in Charleston SC for a long time, and most people think of that as all Civil War, but it actually has a very rich RevWar-era history as well. I miss being close enough for day trips for research!

What a fabulous idea. Enjoying your pioneer book with my girls. I am mid Atlantic and it’s damp and cold. In my heart I am a southern coastal girl but, I do get a lot of reading done during these months.

And I haven’t been to that one–but battlefield can be both cool and saddening. ❤

It’s hard to pick a time. Because so much is fascinating in each era. I too am a huge fan of the hiding place. I don’t know how many times I’ve read it or read it to my family through the years. Some of my favorite books include the outlander series as long as I’m skimming through the more graphic parts, and war and remembrance during World War II

The Hiding Place is THE best, I agree! And really, you like the Outlander series? LOL that’s both cool and surprising! I read the first book and even though I skimmed a lot, couldn’t handle the prospect of all the separation the main couple were sure to wind up dealing with … that’s just a really unfavorite thing for me. (And I wind up using it in my own stories … go figure!)

Almost anything can be made interesting if the writing is good. 😏 19th century is definitely popular, though, and more accessible research-wise than many other time periods.
